Our Thoughts

Posted in Photography with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on August 21, 2012 by allisonlabine

We are ultimately defined by our choices, but our thoughts guide us to the choices we do make. Think on the life you want to live, the person you want to be – all you already do have.

Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words.

Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions.

Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits.

Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character.

Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny.

“Come o’er the sea,
Maiden with me,
Mine through the sunshine, storms and snows;
Seasons may roll,
But the true soul
Burns the same, where’er it goes.”

Meaning of humanity

Posted in Thoughts with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 14, 2012 by allisonlabine

This is a video of a hippo, of all animals, showing a very human trait – the ability to show compassion towards another creature from a different species that is suffering and come to its defense.

Is not the highest measure of any person his/her capacity to care for and help other living creatures? You love someone, because they reach your heart, not because they reach your ego. The most treasured memories we have are the ones that leave footprints on our hearts.

If animals can show the height of what we deem “humanity,” should we not be their voice? Death is part of the cycle of life, but don’t they at least have the right not to suffer?

(In the video, the hippo fends off a crocodile to save an impala and then tries to revive the severely wounded creature in vain).
